Budget Buys for Healthy Eating

11Jul08

A lot of people will tell you that buying organic produce is the only way to go. But if you’ve seen the prices of organic produce, you’ve probably already deduced that this isn’t something you can easily do on a budget. According to the Environmental Working Group, these 12 items are the only ones you really need to worry about buying organic. They’re the ones that have the highest instance of pesticides – peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, pears, imported grapes, spinach, lettuce, and potatoes. So if you’re trying to get fresh produce on a budget, go for organic for those 12 foods, and just go normal for the rest. Your pocketbook will thank you.
